MTB. lunch

Not the best time of year to ride fire trails or bush tracks in northern Sydney, one of my regular mountain bike rides is Marramarra National Park which is open to MTB riders, it has plenty of easy, non technical fire trails but is also home to the Golden Orb Weaver. This one is closer to home, just near our BBQ. It's one of the largest I have seen, approximately 12cm. x 7cm.

Imagine riding into one of these and it's huge sticky web which they build across the trails, scares the S*!# out of you, ask me how I know this.

Feeding and Diet

Golden orb weaving spiders prey items include flies, beetles, locusts, wood moths and cicadas. Sometimes their strong webs manage to trap small birds or bats, and the spider will wrap them and feed upon them.
